      The tension slowly builds and what we think is going on leads us in one direction and we get a sense of danger lurking on the surface.

      A marketing mishap It is clear from her writing and the accolades that festoon the front of this sampler that Mary Kubica is a talented writer However, this excerpt gives nothing for me to bite on in order to tell potential readers whether the full story is worth reading No matter how good the descriptive passages may be, the plot if there is one isn t advanced one iota in the pages I read None of the characters grabbed my attention and begged me to read their tale I m afraid
